Lesson 159 of 240

New here? This is lesson 159 of a free 240-lesson Japanese course.

Set up a meeting in Japanese

Mori-san wants the puzzle-game meeting short. Leo walks to her desk in the Ueno office with a tablet and a plan.

You will ask for a work meeting time, choose online or in person, and agree on a thirty-minute slot.

Send the agenda the same day so the meeting stays on track.

Keep it polite. This is office Japanese, not a weekend plan with friends.

By the end of this lesson

Ask for a work meeting time and agree on an agenda.

Scene — at Mori-san's desk

The Ueno office is quiet after lunch. Mori-san sits at her desk with a tablet and a blank whiteboard behind her.

Leo walks over with notes for the puzzle-game meeting. She looks up, ready for a short talk, not a long one.

Leo approaches Mori-san’s desk in the quiet office after lunch.

Learn — a short work meeting

These six lines help you book a short work meeting.

You set a time, choose online or in person, and send the agenda the same day.

  1. Leo stands beside the desk and opens a brief conversation with Mori-san.

Shall we set a time to meet?

When to use it: Use this to start booking a work meeting time.

ましょうか makes the suggestion a polite question you decide together.

  2. Mori-san looks up from her tablet, considering whether the proposed meeting time works.

Are you free at three tomorrow?

When to use it: Ask this to check if three tomorrow is free.

は marks the time you are asking about.

  3. Leo arranges his meeting notes as he prepares to send the agenda first.

    I’ll send the agenda first.

When to use it: Say this when you will send the agenda before you meet.

先に means you send the agenda before the meeting starts.

  4. Mori-san gestures between Leo and the monitor while they consider meeting in person or online.

Shall we meet online or in person?

When to use it: Use this to choose a video call or a meeting room.

と links the two options, and どちら asks which one.

  5. Leo indicates with a small hand span that the meeting is planned to be brief.

    It’s scheduled for thirty minutes.

When to use it: Use this to say the meeting lasts thirty minutes.

の links the length to 予定.

Say it: 三十分 has a small っ in the middle; hold that stop.

  6. Mori-san gives a small confirming nod and settles one hand on her tablet.

    Let’s go with that time.

When to use it: Say this when you both agree on the meeting time.

で marks the time you have just agreed on.
