Goal: Talk about skills, readiness, and trying things

Free Japanese lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Welcome — ready to talk about what you can (and can’t) do? This short lesson focuses on polite, everyday ways to say you need practice, aren’t ready, or want to try something.

Level A2: In Lesson 71 you'll practice polite phrases for talking about abilities and readiness (e.g., needing more practice, never having tried something, or asking to try). This CEFR-aligned set helps you say things like “I need more practice,” “I’m not ready yet,” and “May I try?” — useful for personal life and everyday conversations.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Practice A2-level phrases to explain your skills and readiness in polite Japanese (です/ます).
  • Be able to say you need more practice, that you haven’t learned or tried something, and to ask permission to try (やってみてもいいですか?).
  • Learn to say when you can do something with help and when you are still practicing.
Two friends in a café, one saying they need more practice in Japanese pronunciation; cozy, everyday personal-life scene.
