Free Japanese lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Ready to find things and ask where people are? This short lesson helps you ask "Where is ___?" and answer simply. Practice listening, repeating, and speaking these handy location phrases aloud.

Level A1: In this lesson you'll learn basic location questions and answers like 「___はどこですか。」 (___ wa doko desu ka.) and simple replies such as 「ここです。」 (Koko desu.) or 「あそこです。」 (Asoko desu.). You'll practice asking if something is nearby, saying something is here or not here, and giving short directions using に and のとなりに. This lesson is CEFR-aligned and focused on everyday survival language.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask where a person or thing is using 「___はどこですか。」 (___ wa doko desu ka.).
  • Say something is here, not here, or over there: 「ここです。」 (Koko desu.), 「ここにいません。」 (koko ni imasen).
  • Use simple place phrases with に, の上に, and のとなりに to say where things are.
