Fix the time and place in Japanese

Haruka wants Saturday settled. At Kissa Hotaru, Leo offers a station and a time while Goro listens from the next booth.

You will pick a meeting place, say when you will arrive, and check that the time works.

Then you lock the plan and promise to message later.

Keep it polite. These lines fix a plan, not a first invitation.

By the end of this lesson

Agree on a time and place, then confirm the plan.

  • 駅(えき)で会(あ)いましょう。Let's meet at the station.
  • ___に着(つ)きます。I'll be there at ___.
  • ___の近(ちか)くで会(あ)えますか。Can we meet near ___?
  • その時間(じかん)でいいですか。Does that time work?
  • じゃあ、それで決(き)まりですね。Then it's a plan.
  • また連絡(れんらく)します。I'll let you know.

Scene — Saturday still open

Saturday is still blank. Haruka sits across from Leo at Kissa Hotaru with her phone on the table.

In the next booth, Goro occupies two red seats. His blend coffee sits untouched beside thick toast.

Learn — time and place

These six lines set a meeting place and a time, then check that both work.

You also lock the plan and say you will message later.

  1. Haruka leans toward Leo with an open hand as they begin choosing a meeting place.

    駅(えき)で会(あ)いましょう。

    Let's meet at the station.

    When to use it: Offer a station as the meeting place.

    で marks the place where you meet.

    Say it: Hold the long おう in しょう.

  2. Leo checks an unmarked watch as he settles on an arrival time.

    ___に着(つ)きます。

    I'll be there at ___.

    When to use it: Name the time you will arrive.

    に marks the time you arrive.

  3. Haruka turns toward the café window and gestures as she suggests meeting near the ticket gates.

    ___の近(ちか)くで会(あ)えますか。

    Can we meet near ___?

    When to use it: Ask to meet near a place you both know.

    の近くで means near that place.

  4. Leo offers an open palm toward Haruka as he checks whether the chosen time works for her.

    その時間(じかん)でいいですか。

    Does that time work?

    When to use it: Check that the other person can do that time.

    でいいですか asks if that choice is fine.

  5. Haruka gives a small decisive nod beside the phone, agreeing to the plan.

    じゃあ、それで決(き)まりですね。

    Then it's a plan.

    When to use it: Use this once you both agree on the plan.

    決まり means the plan is now set.

  6. Leo gestures toward Haruka as Goro leans over from the next booth and nods with toast in hand.

    また連絡(れんらく)します。

    I'll let you know.

    When to use it: Promise a later message about the details.

    また means you will contact them again.

    Say it: Give ん in 連絡 its own beat.

Story — Goro is coming too

Haruka wants Saturday fixed before they leave. Leo offers the station, then they settle on the ticket gates and three o'clock.

  1. Haruka shows Leo her message thread. Saturday still has no time or place.
  2. Leo駅(えき)で会(あ)いましょう。Let's meet at the station.
  3. Haruka改札(かいさつ)の近(ちか)くで会(あ)えますか。Can we meet near the ticket gates?
  4. Leoいいですね。That sounds good.
  5. Haruka何時(なんじ)に会(あ)いますか。What time shall we meet?
  6. Leo3時(じ)に着(つ)きます。I'll be there at three.
  7. Leoその時間(じかん)でいいですか。Does that time work?
  8. Harukaいいですね。That sounds good.
  9. Goro leans over from the next booth and nods, toast still in hand.
  10. Harukaじゃあ、それで決(き)まりですね。Then it's a plan.
  11. Leoまた連絡(れんらく)します。I'll let you know.
  12. Goroそうなんですね。Oh, I see.
