Level A1: In this lesson (144) you'll learn common Japan-specific food and drink phrases like いただきます (Itadakimasu), ごちそうさまでした (Gochisō-sama deshita), 乾杯 (Kanpai), asking for the menu, non-smoking seats, to-go vs. for-here, and simple allergy/order requests. After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Learn and say basic mealtime phrases (e.g., いただきます (Itadakimasu) and ごちそうさまでした (Gochisō-sama deshita)).
  • Ask for practical things in restaurants: メニューをお願いします (Menyū o onegai shimasu), 禁煙席はありますか (Kin'enseki wa arimasu ka), or お会計お願いします (Okaikei onegai shimasu).
  • Handle simple ordering needs: 窓側の席がいいです (Madogawa no seki ga ii desu), 持ち帰りでお願いします (Mochikaeri de onegai shimasu), and say if something is spicy (これは辛いですか, Kore wa karai desu ka).
