Scene — three points on the brief
Maya sits across from Zhi-Ming at the design studio with her notebook open. He has three points on the brief and wants each one to land with a real example.
Coffee photos, crowded homepages, and a night-market sign become the samples. Nothing here solves A-Li's fortune; Maya is only learning how to explain the work.

These six lines help you give an example while you explain a point. Listen to each line, then say it out loud.
Notice how 很好 puts two third tones together, so the first one rises.
比方說
Say, for example.
When to use it: Drop this in after a general point, just before the example.
It flags an example and leaves the actual example still to come.
舉個例子
Let me give an example.
When to use it: Use this when you are about to walk someone through one example.
個 is the measure word inside this set phrase.
Say it: The 子 in 例子 is a neutral tone.
像這種情況
In a case like this.
When to use it: Point back to the kind of situation you just named.
這種 points to a type of case, not one single object.
拿咖啡來說
Take coffee, for example.
When to use it: Use this when coffee is the concrete example for your point.
This line names coffee; it is not a blank for other topics.
其中一個例子是___
One example is ___.
When to use it: Use this to pick out one example from a larger set.
其中 means among those things, then 是 names the example.
Say it: 一 in 一個 changes to a rising tone.
一個很好的例子是___
A good example is ___.
When to use it: Use this when you want to offer an example that works especially well.
的 links the description 很好 to the noun 例子.
Say it: 很 rises here because 好 is also a third tone.
Story — Zhi-Ming explains with examples
Listen as Zhi-Ming explains the brief with three examples, and Maya writes them down.
She asks for an example first, then tries the same phrases back.
Zhi-Ming這次案子有三個重點。This project has three main points.
Maya比如說？For example?- Zhi-Ming舉個例子，首頁不要放太多字。Let me give an example: don't put too much text on the homepage.
- Maya像這種情況，客人會看不清楚嗎？In a case like this, will customers not see it clearly?
- Zhi-Ming對啊。比方說，字太小大家就滑過去了。Right. For example, if the type is too small, people just scroll past.
- Maya我明白了。I understand.
- Zhi-Ming拿咖啡來說，照片要比價錢大。Take coffee, for example: the photo should be bigger than the price.
- Maya其中一個例子是夜市的菜單。One example is a night-market menu.
- Zhi-Ming對。一個很好的例子是雞排攤的招牌。Right. A good example is a chicken-cutlet stall sign.
- Maya那第三個呢？And the third one?
- Zhi-Ming按鈕要夠大，一眼就看得到。The buttons need to be big enough to see at a glance.
- Maya好喔，我都記下來了。Okay, I've written it all down.
- Zhi-Ming你先整理，晚點傳給我。Tidy it up first, and send it to me later.
- Maya好，沒問題。Okay, no problem.
