Traditional Chinese - Where Is It?

Lesson 15 of 152

A friendly Taiwan street scene with a learner looking for a café and checking a phone map; Traditional Chinese signs appear around the street. The image introduces Taiwan Mandarin location phrases for asking where things are.

Goal: Ask, point, and find things around you in Taiwan Mandarin.

Free traditional Chinese lessons with Taiwan Mandarin audio and speaking practice.

Tiny location questions can save the day—especially when your phone, ticket, or friend has mysteriously wandered off.

Level A1: In this lesson, you’ll practice asking ___在哪裡? (___ zài nǎlǐ?) and 你在哪裡? (Nǐ zài nǎlǐ?), plus simple answers like 在這裡。 (Zài zhèlǐ.) and 在那裡。 (Zài nàlǐ.). You’ll also say things are nearby, inside something, next to something, or on something. By the end, you’ll be ready for a mini “lost and found” moment—Yak Yacker style.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask where a person or thing is with ___在哪裡? (___ zài nǎlǐ?) and 你在哪裡? (Nǐ zài nǎlǐ?).
  • Say whether something is here with ___在這裡嗎? (___ zài zhèlǐ ma?), ___在這裡。 (___ zài zhèlǐ.), and ___不在這裡。 (___ bú zài zhèlǐ.).
  • Point out simple locations using 在這裡。 (Zài zhèlǐ.), 在那裡。 (Zài nàlǐ.), 在___裡面。 (Zài ___ lǐmiàn.), 在___旁邊。 (Zài ___ pángbiān.), and ___在___上。 (___ zài ___ shàng.).
  • Ask and answer whether something is near here with ___在這附近嗎? (___ zài zhè fùjìn ma?) and ___在這附近。 (___ zài zhè fùjìn.).
