Hail a taxi in Traditional Chinese
After a late dinner, Maya and Yi-Jun hail a taxi in Taipei. Yi-Jun needs to get off at Taipei Main Station first, and Maya still has a ride home to Banyan Lane.

Scene — a ride after dinner
After a late dinner in Taipei, Maya and Yi-Jun share a taxi. Yi-Jun is getting off at Taipei Main Station first, and Maya will continue home to Banyan Lane.
The driver recognizes the lane when Maya shows the address. They make a quick stop along the way, and she asks for a receipt before getting out.

These six lines help you explain where you are going and ask practical questions during a taxi ride.
Listen for the trip measure word 趟 and the polite softener 一下. Then try each line aloud.
可以載我去這個地址嗎？
Can you take me to this address?
When to use it: Use this polite question when showing a driver a destination.
這個地址 means this address; you can point to it while asking.
大概要多久？
How long will it take?
When to use it: Ask this about the time needed for the ride.
多久 asks how much time something takes, not how far away it is.
這趟大概多少錢？
About how much for the trip?
When to use it: Ask this to check the approximate fare for the ride.
趟 is a measure word for a trip; use it when asking about the fare.
我要去臺北車站
I'm going to Taipei Main Station.
When to use it: Tell the driver your destination with this direct phrase.
可以在這裡停一下嗎？
Can you stop here?
When to use it: Use this polite question to ask the driver to stop.
一下 softens the request and makes it sound less abrupt.
Say it: 一 becomes a rising tone before 下.
我要開收據
Could you give me a receipt?
When to use it: Ask the driver for a receipt before you get out.
This polite question asks the driver to give you a receipt.
Story — two stops on the way home
After dinner, Maya and Yi-Jun share a taxi. Yi-Jun gets out at Taipei Main Station, and Maya continues toward home.
The driver recognizes Banyan Lane, but Maya still checks the travel time and fare.
Maya你好Hello.- Driver你好。要去哪裡？Hello. Where are you going?
Yi-Jun我要去臺北車站I'm going to Taipei Main Station.- Driver好，先到臺北車站。Okay, Taipei Main Station first.

- Maya可以載我去這個地址嗎？Can you take me to this address?
- Driver榕樹巷？可以，我知道。Banyan Lane? Sure, I know it.
- Maya大概要多久？How long will it take?
- Driver大概十五分鐘。About fifteen minutes.
- Maya這趟大概多少錢？About how much for the trip?
- Driver大概三百元。About three hundred dollars.
- Maya可以在這裡停一下嗎？Can you stop here?
- Driver好，我在這裡停。Okay, I'll stop here.
- Maya我要開收據Could you give me a receipt?
