Left something in the car in Traditional Chinese
On a Taipei ride, you notice your scarf is missing and tell the driver it was left in the car. He brings it back, then refuses a tip.
Practise asking the driver to start the meter, checking extra charges, slowing down, and making a stop.
Use these polite requests to settle the fare and get where you need to go.

Scene — a ride across town
A taxi has brought Maya's scarf back to Banyan Breakfast in Da'an. The driver remembers it from an earlier ride, and Maya is relieved to have it again.
She still needs to cross town. She asks about the meter and fare, then makes a couple of polite requests before getting out.

I left something in the car.
When to use it: Use this to tell someone that you left an item in a car.
了 marks the event as completed: the item was left behind.
可以麻煩你跳錶嗎？
Could you start the meter?
When to use it: Ask a taxi driver to use the meter for the fare.
麻煩 makes this request sound polite.
會加收費用嗎？
Is there an extra charge?
When to use it: Ask whether the service will cost extra.
嗎 turns this into a yes-or-no question.
可以開慢一點嗎？
Could you drive slower?
When to use it: Use this to ask a driver to slow down.
一點 softens the request to make a small change.
Say it: 一 is fourth tone here before third-tone 點.
麻煩在這裡讓我下車
Please let me out here.
When to use it: Ask the driver to let you out at your current location.
在這裡 tells the driver where you want to get out.
我想先在前面停一下
I'd like to stop up ahead first.
When to use it: Use this to ask for a brief stop a little farther ahead.
先 puts this stop before the next part of your trip.
Story — a scarf comes back
A driver returns Maya's scarf to Banyan Breakfast. She thanks him, and offers a tip, but he politely refuses.
Then Maya gets in for another ride and checks the meter and fare before asking for a slower drive and a stop.
Auntie Lin司機把妳的圍巾送回來了。The driver brought your scarf back.
Maya不好意思，我有東西忘在車上了。Sorry, I left something in the car.- Driver找到了，這是你的圍巾。I found it. Here's your scarf.
- Maya謝謝。Thank you.
- Maya這是小費，請收下。This is a tip. Please take it.
- Driver不用客氣，我不收小費。You're welcome. I don't take tips.
- Maya可以麻煩你跳錶嗎？Could you start the meter?
- Driver好，現在跳錶。Sure, the meter is on now.
- Maya會加收費用嗎？Is there an extra charge?
- Driver不會，照錶收費。No, it's charged by the meter.
- Maya可以開慢一點嗎？Could you drive slower?
- Driver好喔。Okay.
- Maya我想先在前面停一下。I'd like to stop up ahead first.
- Driver好，前面停。Sure, I'll stop up ahead.
- Maya麻煩在這裡讓我下車。Please let me out here.
