Plans for later in Traditional Chinese

At Banyan Breakfast, Yi-Jun asks what you will do next year. You have ideas, but not every detail is settled.

Learn to state a plan, share something you are considering, and say what still depends on the weather.

Then talk about Tainan, trying something new, and A-Li's familiar breakfast routine without solving the fortune slip.

Scene — a year ahead

At Banyan Breakfast, Maya and Yi-Jun talk over breakfast about Maya's year ahead. Tainan is one possible trip, but work and weather may affect the plan.

A-Li is at his usual table with an unfinished drink and an egg pancake. His familiar routine adds a small joke; the fortune slip stays unexplained.

Learn — talk about your plans

Use these lines to talk about what you intend to do, what you are still considering, and what you have not decided.

Some plans are firm; others depend on a condition, like the weather.

  1. Maya points at a scenic Tainan view on a phone as she tells Yi-Jun she plans to go.

    我打算去臺南

    I plan to go to Tainan.

    When to use it: Use this to share an intention or plan to travel to Tainan.

  2. Maya thoughtfully considers changing jobs while Yi-Jun listens over breakfast.

    我在考慮換工作

    I'm thinking about changing jobs.

    When to use it: Use this when you are considering a possible change in your work.

  3. Maya gives a hesitant shrug as she tells Yi-Jun she has not decided yet.

    我還沒決定

    I haven't decided yet.

    When to use it: Use this when you have not made a choice yet.

  4. Maya glances toward the bright morning sky outside as she weighs the weather in her plans.

    要看天氣

    It depends on the weather.

    When to use it: Use this when the weather will affect whether your plan happens.

    Here, 要看 means the outcome depends on something.

  5. Maya nods with a small smile as she says she would like to give it a try.

    我想試試看

    I'd like to give it a try.

    When to use it: Use this to say you are willing to try something.

    Say it: The second 試 is often light, with a neutral tone.

  6. Maya leans forward and gestures toward the doorway as she says she will go if all goes well.

    如果一切順利，我就會去

    If all goes well, I'll go.

    When to use it: Use this to describe a plan that will happen if things go well.

    如果 introduces a condition, and 就 links it to the result.

Story — a possible trip to Tainan

Maya and Yi-Jun chat about the coming year at Banyan Breakfast. Maya has a possible trip in mind, but some details still depend on circumstances.

A-Li keeps to his usual breakfast routine nearby.

  1. Yi-Jun你明年有什麼計畫？What plans do you have for next year?
  2. Maya我還沒決定。I haven't decided yet.
  3. Maya我在考慮換工作。I'm thinking about changing jobs.

  8. Maya要看天氣。It depends on the weather.
  9. Yi-Jun想去夜市試新口味嗎？Would you like to try a new flavor at the night market?
  10. Maya我想試試看。I'd like to give it a try.
  11. A-Li我每天都吃蛋餅。I eat an egg pancake every day.
  12. Maya如果一切順利，我就會去。If all goes well, I'll go.
