Sometimes the hardest part of a conversation is not starting—it’s landing the plane. Today you’ll learn a few friendly ways to signal, “Okay, I’ve said enough!”

Level B1: this lesson helps you end a topic naturally in Taiwan Mandarin, especially when you’ve explained something and don’t want to overdo it. You’ll practice phrases like “that’s basically it,” “I won’t go into details,” and “anyway, enough said.” Tiny social glue, big conversation power—Yak Yacker approved.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Use 嗯,大概就是這樣。 (Ń, dàgài jiù shì zhèyàng.) to show your explanation is finished.
  • Use 細節我就不多說了,免得你覺得無聊。 (Xìjié wǒ jiù bù duō shuō le, miǎnde nǐ juéde wúliáo.) to avoid overexplaining politely.
  • Use 總之,就不多說了。 (Zǒngzhī, jiù bù duō shuō le.) to close a topic and move on smoothly.
Traditional Chinese phrases for Taiwan Mandarin appear beside a warm café table scene, introducing natural ways to end a topic. The mood is relaxed and conversational.

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

嗯,大概就是這樣。

Ń, dàgài jiù shì zhèyàng.

So yeah, that's basically it.

Meaning: 嗯,大概就是這樣。 (Ń, dàgài jiù shì zhèyàng.) means “So yeah, that’s basically it.” It gently tells the listener your explanation is finished.

When to use: Use it after giving a short summary, update, or explanation, especially when you want to stop there without sounding cold.

Tip: Don’t use this when you need a strong formal conclusion. It sounds conversational and a little casual.

我昨天去看醫生,結果沒什麼大問題。嗯,大概就是這樣。

Wǒ zuótiān qù kàn yīshēng, jiéguǒ méi shénme dà wèntí. Ń, dàgài jiù shì zhèyàng.

I went to the doctor yesterday, and it turned out to be nothing serious. So yeah, that’s basically it.
我們這次開會主要是在討論預算,嗯,大概就是這樣。

Wǒmen zhè cì kāihuì zhǔyào shì zài tǎolùn yùsuàn, ń, dàgài jiù shì zhèyàng.

This meeting was mainly about discussing the budget, so yeah, that’s basically it.

細節我就不多說了,免得你覺得無聊。

Xìjié wǒ jiù bù duō shuō le, miǎnde nǐ juéde wúliáo.

I don't want to bore you with the details.

Meaning: 細節我就不多說了,免得你覺得無聊。 (Xìjié wǒ jiù bù duō shuō le, miǎnde nǐ juéde wúliáo.) means “I don’t want to bore you with the details.”

When to use: Use it when you want to skip extra details in a polite, friendly way. It shows you are thinking about the listener’s patience.

Tip: Because 免得 (miǎnde) means “so as not to,” the sentence is about preventing the listener from feeling bored, not saying they are already bored.

那個流程其實滿複雜的,細節我就不多說了,免得你覺得無聊。

Nàge liúchéng qíshí mǎn fùzá de, xìjié wǒ jiù bù duō shuō le, miǎnde nǐ juéde wúliáo.

That process is actually pretty complicated, but I won’t go into the details so I don’t bore you.
我跟客戶來回改了很多次,細節我就不多說了,免得你覺得無聊。

Wǒ gēn kèhù láihuí gǎi le hěn duō cì, xìjié wǒ jiù bù duō shuō le, miǎnde nǐ juéde wúliáo.

The client and I revised it back and forth many times, but I don’t want to bore you with the details.

總之,就不多說了。

Zǒngzhī, jiù bù duō shuō le.

Anyway, enough said.

Meaning: 總之,就不多說了。 (Zǒngzhī, jiù bù duō shuō le.) means “Anyway, enough said.” It closes the topic clearly but not harshly.

When to use: Use it when enough has been said and you want to move on, especially after a slightly long or messy explanation.

他們後來又改時間,又改地點。總之,就不多說了。

Tāmen hòulái yòu gǎi shíjiān, yòu gǎi dìdiǎn. Zǒngzhī, jiù bù duō shuō le.

They later changed the time and the place again. Anyway, enough said.
這件事有點尷尬。總之,就不多說了。

Zhè jiàn shì yǒudiǎn gāngà. Zǒngzhī, jiù bù duō shuō le.

This whole thing is a bit awkward. Anyway, enough said.

2. Conversational Listening Practice

Hear phrases in a real mini-conversation.

Anna is telling David why her team meeting ran long.

Anna and David practice Taiwan Mandarin in Traditional Chinese, using topic-ending phrases in a casual conversation. One speaker smiles as they politely avoid going into too many details.

Mainly because everyone had a lot of opinions about the new process.
