Traditional Chinese - Possession

Lesson 14 of 152

A bright tabletop scene in Taiwan with a phone, pens, and notebooks waiting to be claimed, introducing the Traditional Chinese Taiwan Mandarin lesson topic of possession.

Goal: Ask whose it is, say what you have, and rescue lonely pens.

Free traditional Chinese lessons with Taiwan Mandarin audio and speaking practice.

Today we’re solving tiny mysteries: a phone on the table, three pens with no owner, and one very suspicious notebook.

By the end, you’ll be able to ask “yours?” and answer “not mine” without panic — very useful in cafés, classrooms, and group chats.

Level A1: This lesson helps you handle everyday “whose is this?” moments in Taiwan Mandarin. You’ll practice asking 這是你的嗎? (Zhè shì nǐ de ma?) and 這些是你的嗎? (Zhèxiē shì nǐ de ma?), saying 這不是我的。 (Zhè bú shì wǒ de.), and using 有 (yǒu) to talk about what people have. Tiny objects, big Mandarin wins.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask if one thing belongs to someone with 這是你的嗎? (Zhè shì nǐ de ma?).
  • Ask if several things belong to someone with 這些是你的嗎? (Zhèxiē shì nǐ de ma?).
  • Say something is not yours with 這不是我的。 (Zhè bú shì wǒ de.) and that several things are yours with 這些是我的。 (Zhèxiē shì wǒ de.).
  • Use 有 (yǒu) phrases to ask what someone has and say what you or your group have.
