Traditional Chinese - Phone Messages

Lesson 138 of 152

A learner holding a phone beside a notebook of Traditional Chinese phrases for Taiwan Mandarin phone messages. The scene feels friendly and practical, with call-back and message notes on the page.

Goal: Polite phrases for calling, leaving messages, and calling back

Free traditional Chinese lessons with Taiwan Mandarin audio and speaking practice.

Phone calls in another language can feel fast—but you do not need to catch every word. A few polite, ready-to-say phrases can carry the whole call.

Level A2: In this lesson, you’ll practice asking for someone on the phone, saying who you are, offering to take a message, and asking for a call back. You’ll also learn how to say you dialed the wrong number—because even confident yaks can mis-dial sometimes.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask to speak with someone using 請問可以找___嗎? (Qǐngwèn kěyǐ zhǎo ___ ma?) and 請問___在嗎? (Qǐngwèn ___ zài ma?).
  • Identify yourself with 我是___。 (Wǒ shì ___.) and ask politely who is calling with 請問您是哪位? (Qǐngwèn nín shì nǎ wèi?).
  • Handle messages with 需要幫您留言嗎? (Xūyào bāng nín liúyán ma?), 我想留個言。 (Wǒ xiǎng liú ge yán.), and 留言內容是___。 (Liúyán nèiróng shì ___.).
  • Ask for a return call and give your number with 可以請___回電給我嗎? (Kěyǐ qǐng ___ huídiàn gěi wǒ ma?) and 我的電話是___。 (Wǒ de diànhuà shì ___.).
