Welcome back! Today we’re putting on our tiny detective hats: not just “what happened,” but why it happened.

Level B1: This lesson helps you explain reasons with phrases like 我決定___,是因為___ (Wǒ juédìng ___, shì yīnwèi ___) and 所以我才___ (Suǒyǐ wǒ cái ___). You’ll also practice asking about causes with ___是怎麼造成的? (___ shì zěnme zàochéng de?) and checking guesses with 是因為___嗎? (Shì yīnwèi ___ ma?). By the end, your Mandarin will sound less like a list of facts and more like a real conversation.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask whether something caused a result using 是因為___嗎? (Shì yīnwèi ___ ma?) and 所以是因為這樣才___嗎? (Suǒyǐ shì yīnwèi zhèyàng cái ___ ma?).
  • Explain decisions naturally with 我決定___,是因為___ (Wǒ juédìng ___, shì yīnwèi ___).
  • Connect reasons to results using 所以我才___ (Suǒyǐ wǒ cái ___) and 我覺得___,所以就___ (Wǒ juéde ___, suǒyǐ jiù ___).
  • Introduce several reasons with 原因有幾個 (Yuányīn yǒu jǐ ge), 其中一個原因是___ (Qízhōng yí ge yuányīn shì ___), and 另一個原因是___ (Lìng yí ge yuányīn shì ___).
Two learners in Taiwan discuss why plans changed, with Traditional Chinese captions showing reason phrases. The scene highlights spoken Taiwan Mandarin for explaining causes.
