Traditional Chinese - Past Experiences

Lesson 66 of 152

A warm notebook-and-coffee scene for a Traditional Chinese Taiwan Mandarin lesson on past experiences, with travel photos and handwritten memory notes spread across a table.

Goal: Tell little life stories without getting tangled in the timeline.

Free traditional Chinese lessons with Taiwan Mandarin audio and speaking practice.

Welcome back! Today we’re opening the memory drawer: old habits, first times, surprises, and “I can’t believe that happened” moments.

This lesson gives you ready-made story pieces, so your Mandarin can yak about the past without wandering off into the weeds.

Level B1: you’ll practice natural Taiwan Mandarin phrases for talking about past experiences, like what you used to do, where you’ve been, first-time experiences, and unexpected results. These chunks help you connect events smoothly: before, then, after that, and looking back. By the end, you’ll have a small storytelling toolkit for personal memories.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Talk about repeated past habits using 我年紀比較小的時候常常___。 (Wǒ niánjì bǐjiào xiǎo de shíhou chángcháng ___.)
  • Ask and answer experience questions with 你有___過嗎? (Nǐ yǒu ___ guò ma?) and 我以前去過___。 (Wǒ yǐqián qùguò ___.)
  • Tell a short B1-level personal story with time markers like 幾年前,我___。 (Jǐ nián qián, wǒ ___.) and 後來,我就___。 (Hòulái, wǒ jiù ___.)
  • Describe first times, surprises, and favorite memories using phrases like 我第一次___是在___。 (Wǒ dì-yī cì ___ shì zài ___.) and 我沒想到會___。 (Wǒ méi xiǎngdào huì ___.)
