I'm glad you're here in Spanish
It's late. Café Laurel just closed, and Justin walks Megan to the door of the building. Nothing dramatic, just two friends saying good night.
In this lesson you'll learn to say you're glad to see someone, that you care about them, that you're around, and to wish them well.
All of it short and warm. No speech needed.
By the end of this lesson
Say you're glad to see someone and that you care, in a few words.
- Me alegra verteI'm glad to see you
- Te quieroI care about you
- Aquí andoI'm around
- Cuídate muchoTake good care
- Gracias por estarThanks for being here
Scene — the door of the building
Night in colonia El Laurel. Michael has just locked up Café Laurel, and Justin walks Megan the half block home.
They stop under the streetlight by the door of her building. The street is quiet and a little cold.

Learn — glad, care, around
Five short lines carry real weight: glad to see you, I care about you, I'm around, take good care, thanks for being here.
You'll see when each one fits and how much feeling it carries.

Me alegra verte
I'm glad to see you
When to use it: Say this when seeing someone genuinely makes you happy.
Alegra comes from alegrar, to make glad; me means it makes me glad.
Say it: ah-LEH-grah BEHR-teh

Te quiero
I care about you
When to use it: Say this to family or a close friend, when you mean it.
Between friends this is warm and serious, not romantic.

Aquí ando
I'm around
When to use it: Say this to show you're still nearby and easy to find.
Ando is a common way to say I go or I'm going about, a bit informal.

Cuídate mucho
Take good care
When to use it: Say this when saying goodbye and you really mean it.
Mucho adds warmth; plain cuídate is lighter and quicker.

Gracias por estar
Thanks for being here
When to use it: Say this when someone's presence itself meant something to you.
Estar here means being present, not being an object.
