They asked me to in Spanish

Justin just sat through a neighbors' meeting he's not sure he understood, and Alex wants to compare notes.

You'll learn how to report what people asked you to do, what was agreed, and what stayed unclear. These are the lines that save you when everyone heard something different.

By the end, you can check understanding without sounding unsure.

By the end of this lesson

Report what you were asked to do and what was left unclear.

  • Me pidieron que ___They asked me to ___
  • Quedó que ___We left it that ___
  • Según las reglas, ___According to the rules, ___
  • No me quedó claro si ___It wasn't clear to me whether ___
  • Yo entendí que ___What I understood was ___
  • ¿Tú entendiste lo mismo?Did you understand it the same way?

Scene — comparing notes

Café Laurel, late morning. Justin has a notebook full of meeting notes he can't quite make sense of, and Alex has just walked in from the same meeting.

Yako is on his two chairs, listening like he takes minutes.

Learn — what was agreed

Six lines for reporting instructions and agreements. Notice how each one frames what you heard: they asked me, we left it that, according to the rules.

Learn each one as a frame you fill with real content.

  1. justin is the one speaking. The moment means: They asked me to ___

    Me pidieron que ___

    They asked me to ___

When to use it: Say this to report an instruction that a group or several people gave you.

Pidieron is plural, so it's they. The verb after que usually goes in the past subjunctive: Me pidieron que llegara.

  2. justin is the one speaking. The moment means: We left it that ___

    Quedó que ___

    We left it that ___

When to use it: Say this to report what a group finally agreed, without naming who decided.

Quedar works like to end up: the agreement itself is the subject. Very common in Mexico for deals and plans.

  3. yako is the one speaking. The moment means: According to the rules, ___

    Según las reglas, ___

    According to the rules, ___

When to use it: Say this to back up what you're saying by pointing to the rules.

Según never changes; it works for rules, people, or the weather forecast.

  4. justin is the one speaking. The moment means: It wasn't clear to me whether ___

No me quedó claro si ___

It wasn't clear to me whether ___

When to use it: Say this to admit, politely, that a point stayed unclear to you.

Quedar claro is the fixed phrase for something being clear. Si introduces the whether part.

  5. yako is the one speaking. The moment means: What I understood was ___

    Yo entendí que ___

    What I understood was ___

When to use it: Say this to give your reading of what was said while leaving room to be wrong.

The yo adds a soft contrast: this is my version, not the official one.

  6. justin is the one speaking. The moment means: Did you understand it the same way?

    ¿Tú entendiste lo mismo?

Did you understand it the same way?

When to use it: Say this to check that the other person took away the same thing you did.

Lo mismo stands for the same thing, so you never repeat the content.
