Level A1: In Lesson 154 you'll practice four useful Spanish phrases for looking for objects and telling someone you found them. These Latin America-friendly expressions help you ask where you left something, ask if someone else saw it, say you don’t see it, and say you found it. CEFR-aligned and focused on immediate, everyday use.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Practice four common A1 phrases for searching for objects and updating someone.
  • Recognize and use questions and short statements in conversation (asking, saying you can’t see it, and reporting you found it).
  • Feel confident asking and answering quick questions when you lose something.

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

¿Dónde lo dejé?

Where did I leave it?

Meaning: Where did I leave it?

When to use: Use this question when you realize you misplaced something and want to ask where you put it before.

Tip: Don’t mix up tense: use dejé (I left) for past. Saying 'dejo' would mean 'I leave' now.

No recuerdo. ¿Dónde lo dejé?
I don't remember. Where did I leave it?
Busco el teléfono: ¿Dónde lo dejé?
I'm looking for the phone: Where did I leave it?

No lo veo.

I don’t see it.

Meaning: I don’t see it.

When to use: Say this when you look around and the object is not visible, or when you can’t find something on a screen.

He buscado en la mesa, pero no lo veo.
I've searched the table, but I don't see it.
¿Está en la pantalla? No lo veo.
Is it on the screen? I don’t see it.

¿Lo viste?

Did you see it?

Meaning: Did you see it?

When to use: Ask this when you want to know if someone else noticed the object, a message, or an event.

Tip: Beginners sometimes put the pronoun after the verb ('viste lo?') — correct order is '¿Lo viste?'

Perdí mis gafas. ¿Lo viste?
I lost my glasses. Did you see it?
Mi cartera no está. ¿Lo viste en la cocina?
My wallet isn't here. Did you see it in the kitchen?

Ya lo encontré.

I found it.

Meaning: I found it.

When to use: Say this once you locate the missing item and want to let others know.

¡Ya lo encontré! Estaba debajo del sofá.
I found it! It was under the sofa.
Gracias. Ya lo encontré en mi bolso.
Thanks. I found it in my bag.
