I'll take care of it in Spanish
Someone trusts you with something small, and you want to say yes in a way they believe.
Today you'll learn to promise, to say they can count on you, and to ask for a reminder if it slips your mind.
Justin gets to try all of it when a coffee delivery shows up at Café Laurel.
By the end of this lesson
Promise something you can do, and say they can count on you.
- Te lo prometoI promise
- Cuenta conmigoYou can count on me
- No te falloI won't leave you hanging
- Yo me encargoI'll handle it
- ¿Me lo recuerdas si se me pasa?Remind me if I forget?
Scene — a delivery on the way
Mid-afternoon at Café Laurel. Michael's phone keeps buzzing: his coffee supplier is dropping off a box of beans any minute, and Michael has to run to the bank before it closes.
Justin and Yako are at their usual table, cups half empty, right by the door.

Learn — promises you can keep
These five lines are the toolkit for a small, honest promise: I'll handle it, I promise, count on me.
There's also a graceful way to admit you might forget and ask for backup.

Te lo prometo
I promise
When to use it: Say this when you give your word about something you'll really do.
Lo stands for the thing promised; you don't repeat it.
Say it: pro-MEH-toh, with the stress on MEH.

Cuenta conmigo
You can count on me
When to use it: Say this to reassure someone they can rely on you.
Conmigo is one word; it means with me.
Say it: koon-MEE-goh, with the stress on MEE.

No te fallo
I won't leave you hanging
When to use it: Say this as a warm, casual guarantee that you'll come through.
Fallo here means I fail you; the present tense makes it a firm promise.

Yo me encargo
I'll handle it
When to use it: Say this to take a task off someone's hands.
It's the same verb as me encargo de ___, without naming the task.

¿Me lo recuerdas si se me pasa?
Remind me if I forget?
When to use it: Say this when you mean to do something but might let it slip.
Se me pasa is the everyday way to say it slips my mind.
Story — watch the package
Michael has to leave for ten minutes, and a coffee delivery is coming while he's out.
