Free Spanish lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Welcome! In this lesson you'll practice asking and answering how often you do everyday activities. Listen, repeat, and then try the short conversation and exercises — it's a quick, useful mix.

Level A2: This lesson focuses on common phrases to ask about frequency (¿Sueles...?, ¿Cuántas veces a la semana...?) and ways to answer (Normalmente..., A veces..., Nunca..., ___ una vez a la semana, Yo ___ dos veces al mes, etc.). You'll hear the phrases, use them in a short dialogue, and practice with multiple-choice, fill-in blanks, and speaking prompts. CEFR-aligned and ready for real conversations.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask someone how often they do something using ¿Sueles...? and ¿Cuántas veces a la semana...?
  • Give frequency answers: Normalmente, A veces, Nunca, and numeric patterns like ___ una vez a la semana or Yo ___ dos veces al mes.
  • Use approximate frequency with Como ___ veces a la semana and say when you don't do something often (No ___ muy seguido).
  • Build confidence speaking these short frequency phrases aloud (Level A2).

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

¿Sueles ___?

Do you often ___?

Meaning: Do you often ___?

When to use: Use to ask a friend if they often do an activity. Add a verb or verb phrase after the blank, e.g., ¿Sueles ir al cine?

Tip: Beginners sometimes add the subject pronoun (¿Sueles tú...?) — it's not wrong, but Spanish usually omits it here.

¿Sueles ir al cine?
Do you often go to the cinema?
¿Sueles estudiar por la noche?
Do you often study at night?

___ una vez a la semana.

I ___ once a week.

Meaning: I ___ once a week.

When to use: Say this to report an action that happens one time each week; put a verb before the phrase (e.g., Voy una vez a la semana).

I go once a week.
Visito a mis padres una vez a la semana.
I visit my parents once a week.

When to use: Use when you want to say a specific number of times per week, e.g., Estudio tres veces a la semana.

Hago ejercicio tres veces a la semana.
I exercise three times a week.
Estudio español dos veces a la semana.
I study Spanish twice a week.

Normalmente ___.

Meaning: I usually ___.

When to use: Start a sentence about your normal routine, e.g., Normalmente cocino en casa.

Normalmente trabajo desde casa.
I usually work from home.
Normalmente cocino los domingos.
I usually cook on Sundays.

A veces ___.

I sometimes ___.

Meaning: I sometimes ___.

When to use: Use for actions that happen occasionally, less than 'normalmente' but not never.

Sometimes I go out late.
A veces veo una película por la noche.
Sometimes I watch a movie at night.

No ___ muy seguido.

I don't ___ very often.

Meaning: I don’t ___ very often.

When to use: Say this to downplay how often you do something; 'muy seguido' is common in many regions.

Tip: Some learners place 'muy seguido' before the verb; it normally follows the verb phrase (No voy muy seguido).

No como fuera muy seguido.
I don't eat out very often.
No voy al teatro muy seguido.
I don't go to the theater very often.

Nunca ___.

I never ___.

Meaning: I never ___.

When to use: Use for actions that do not happen at all.

Nunca fumo.
I never smoke.
Nunca olvido mi pasaporte.
I never forget my passport.

Como ___ veces a la semana.

About ___ times a week.

Meaning: About ___ times a week.

When to use: Use 'Como' plus a number to give an approximate weekly frequency: Como dos veces a la semana.

Como dos veces a la semana en ese café.
I eat at that café about twice a week.
Como unas tres veces a la semana comida rápida.
I eat fast food about three times a week.

¿Cuántas veces a la semana ___?
