Did you see my message? in Spanish

Justin is dealing with a busy work chat and a busy hallway. He needs to say that he sent a message, ask whether Alex saw it, and explain that he's in a meeting.

You'll also practice asking someone to text you and saying you already replied.

The timing gets slightly ridiculous when Alex and Justin miss each other by one minute.

By the end of this lesson

Talk about sending, seeing, and replying to a message.

  • Te mandé un mensajeI sent you a message
  • Te contesto al ratoI'll reply in a bit
  • Estoy en una juntaI'm in a meeting
  • ¿Me puedes escribir?Can you text me?
  • Ya te respondíI already replied

Scene — a missed hallway hello

Justin is working at a small table near the hallway of Café Laurel.

Alex is moving between a meeting room and the café, checking a phone that keeps buzzing.

They are both trying to find each other, but their timing is terrible.

Justin works at a small table near the hallway while Alex hurries between the café and a nearby meeting room, and they nearly miss each other.

Learn — messages and replies

These five chunks help you talk about messages in a natural, everyday way.

Notice how the past forms describe messages already sent or answered, while the present forms explain what's happening now.

  1. I sent a message, the screen showing it.

    Te mandé un mensaje

    I sent you a message

When to use it: Say this when you want someone to know that you sent them a message.

Mandé is the past form for I sent, and te means to you.

Say it: Mandé sounds like mahn-DEH.

  2. Justin gestures that he will answer soon while glancing between his phone and his work at the café table.

    Te contesto al rato

    I'll reply in a bit

When to use it: Say this when you will answer someone a little later.

Al rato is a casual Mexican way to say in a bit or later.

Say it: Contesto sounds like kohn-TEHS-toh.

  3. I'm in a meeting, the auto-reply or Alex's status.

    Estoy en una junta

    I'm in a meeting

When to use it: Say this when you are currently in a work meeting.

Junta is feminine, so use una before it.

Say it: Junta sounds like HOON-tah.

  4. Justin leans toward his phone with an inviting hand gesture, asking Alex to write to him.

    ¿Me puedes escribir?

    Can you text me?

When to use it: Ask this when you want someone to send you a written message.

Escribir means to write, and it can mean text in this context.

Say it: Escribir sounds like ehs-kree-BEER.

  5. I'll reply in a bit, said to the air or to Amanda passing.

    Ya te respondí

    I already replied

When to use it: Say this when you have already answered someone's message.

Ya means already, and respondí describes a completed reply.

Say it: Respondí sounds like reh-spohn-DEE.

Practice — work-chat practice

You'll listen, match meanings, choose replies, fill gaps, and build complete chunks.

Read the situation carefully: a message question, a meeting, and a later reply each need a different answer.
