Notice how many routine verbs are just two-character chunks. Mandarin loves that. Short, neat, and a little smug about it.

Quick note: often feels like “already” or “then, right away,” while often adds the feeling of “only then” or “later than expected.” English speakers mix them up all the time. Mandarin notices. Quietly. Ruthlessly.
