Japanese placement test
Find your Japanese level with a free, JLPT-styled quiz.
Where do you stand?
This free quiz is styled after the JLPT levels, so your result maps to the level system most Japanese learners already know. It's an informal estimate of where to start, not an official JLPT result — we don't administer that exam or hand out certificates. It just saves you from guessing and starting ten lessons too low or too high.
This Japanese test
What you get
Our placement is JLPT-styled, not an official JLPT and not a certificate. Graded readers on this site still use A1–B1 reading bands.
How it works
Questions get harder. You can skip. The result is a next step, not a diploma.
After the result
Take the quiz, get your level, and jump straight into the right stretch of the 240 lessons.
