Free German lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Ready to explain a tricky situation clearly? In this short lesson you’ll learn useful German phrases to report problems and ask for help. Practice saying them, listen to a mini-conversation, then try the activities.

Level B1: This lesson focuses on clear ways to describe problems (devices, orders, messages, accounts) and to ask someone to check them. You will practice phrases like Es gibt ein Problem mit..., ___ funktioniert nicht richtig, Ich kriege ___ nicht zum Laufen, and polite requests such as Könntest du dir das mal für mich anschauen? (CEFR-aligned).

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Describe technical or procedural problems and when they began.
  • Say you didn’t receive something or that something went wrong.
  • Politely ask someone to check and ask what to do next.
  • Level B1: Use these phrases in short conversations about real situations.
Two coworkers discuss a problem with a service — German learning focused on explaining issues.

Es gibt ein Problem mit meinem Konto.
There's a problem with my account.

When to use: Use casually when you cannot make a device, software, or system start or function; the object is usually accusative with articles (den Drucker, die App).

Ich kriege den Drucker nicht zum Laufen.
I can’t get the printer to work.
Ich kriege die App nicht zum Laufen.
I can’t get the app to work.

Ich habe ___ nicht bekommen.

This has happened before, since the update.

Vorher war alles okay, aber jetzt ___.
