Free Simplified Chinese lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Hi — welcome to Lesson 11! Short, friendly practice today: you’ll listen, repeat, and use simple want/need phrases in real situations. Try them aloud — speaking helps memory.

Level A1: In this short lesson you’ll learn and practice core survival phrases for wanting and needing things (for example 我想要 (Wǒ xiǎng yào) and 我需要 (Wǒ xūyào)). We’ll focus on saying what you want, asking politely (可以给我___吗?), refusing gently, and making tiny suggestions. This CEFR-aligned lesson is about ordering, shopping, and everyday needs.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Learn to say what you want (我想要 (Wǒ xiǎng yào) / 我想 (Wǒ xiǎng)).
  • Ask politely for things (可以给我___吗? (Kěyǐ gěi wǒ ___ ma?)).
  • Say you need something (我需要 (Wǒ xūyào)) or that you must do something (我得 (Wǒ děi)).
  • Practice refusing politely (我不想要 (Wǒ bù xiǎng yào)).
