Transportation Vocabulary in English
From bus stops to boarding gates: words and phrases for getting around without sounding lost.
Transportation English is basically two things: the vehicle and the stress. This list covers both.
You will get core transport words, travel documents, station vocabulary, and real-life phrases you can actually use.

bus public transport
A large vehicle that stops along a route to pick up passengers.
Example: I take the bus to work when it rains.
train rail
A vehicle on tracks that travels between stations.
Example: The train to Taipei leaves at 8:10.
subway / metro underground
A city train system, often underground.
Example: We rode the subway to the museum.
taxi paid ride
A car you pay to take you somewhere.
Example: Let us take a taxi to the hotel.
ride-share app ride
A car you request using an app.
Example: I booked a ride-share to the airport.
bicycle two wheels
A bike you pedal.
Example: She commutes by bicycle on sunny days.
ferry by water
A boat that carries people (and sometimes cars) across water.
Example: The ferry crosses the bay every 30 minutes.
airplane by air
A plane that flies you to another city or country.
Example: Our airplane lands at 6 p.m.

Tip: For directions, you can safely combine these: “Where is the station?” + “Which platform?” + “Do I need to transfer?” and you will sound very functional.
