Free Simplified Chinese lessons with guided practice, audio, and speaking support.

Welcome! Ready to shop like a local? This quick lesson gives you common, practical phrases used in Chinese markets and shops. Use the audio to hear each phrase, repeat aloud, then try the mini-dialogue and practice activities.

Level A1: In this lesson you'll learn 13 handy shopping phrases (how to ask the price, try or taste things, ask about sizes and colors, and decide what to buy). These are China-specific everyday lines you'll use at markets, clothing stores, and food stalls. CEFR-aligned and focused on real spoken language — let’s make shopping less awkward and more fun.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Ask how much something costs and ask to try or taste it (e.g. 这个怎么卖? Zhè ge zěnme mài?).
  • Ask about sizes and colors and give simple feedback (e.g. 有没有小一点的? Yǒu méiyǒu xiǎo yìdiǎn de?).
  • Say whether something is too big or small and choose an item to buy (e.g. 太大了。Tài dà le. / 我要这个。Wǒ yào zhè ge.).
  • Practice speaking each phrase aloud to build confidence for real shopping situations.
