Hi — ready to practice short travel messages used all the time in China? This lesson helps you say (and text) simple arrival and delay updates. Listen, repeat, then try the mini-dialogue.

Level A1: Lesson 147 — short, useful phrases for meeting people while traveling in China. You'll practice seven everyday messages (e.g., 我到了。Wǒ dào le. “I’ve arrived.” and 路上有点堵。Lùshang yǒudiǎn dǔ. “Traffic is a bit bad.”). These are the exact lines locals text when coordinating a meetup — great for trains, taxis, and café plans.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Recognize and say seven common meetup messages in Chinese (A1).
  • Use texts like 我在路上。 (Wǒ zài lùshang.) and 快到了。 (Kuài dào le.) to coordinate arrival times.
  • Understand polite options for telling people to wait or go ahead (我等你。/你先去吧。).
Two friends meeting outside a Beijing café — one texts 我在路上 (Wǒ zài lùshang) while in a taxi stuck in traffic.

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

我到了

Wǒ dào le.

I’ve arrived.

Meaning: I’ve arrived.

When to use: Say or text this when you reach the meeting place or your train/bus arrival point.

Tip: Beginners sometimes omit 了 (le) and say 我到, which sounds unnatural for 'I've arrived.'

Wǒ dào le, zhàn kǒu pángbiān yǒu yí gè hóngsè diāosù.

I'm here; there's a red sculpture by the station exit.

I've arrived, I'll wait downstairs for you.

When to use: Text this when you are en route but not yet there — for example on a train or in a taxi.
