Hi — ready to practice short travel messages used all the time in China? This lesson helps you say (and text) simple arrival and delay updates. Listen, repeat, then try the mini-dialogue.
Level A1: Lesson 147 — short, useful phrases for meeting people while traveling in China. You'll practice seven everyday messages (e.g., 我到了。Wǒ dào le. “I’ve arrived.” and 路上有点堵。Lùshang yǒudiǎn dǔ. “Traffic is a bit bad.”). These are the exact lines locals text when coordinating a meetup — great for trains, taxis, and café plans.
After this lesson you'll be able to:
Recognize and say seven common meetup messages in Chinese (A1).
Use texts like 我在路上。 (Wǒ zài lùshang.) and 快到了。 (Kuài dào le.) to coordinate arrival times.
Understand polite options for telling people to wait or go ahead (我等你。/你先去吧。).
Ready? Let's go!
When you tap play on phrases, we track your progress through this lesson.
1. Reading + Listening Practice
Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.
我到了
Wǒ dào le.
I’ve arrived.
Meaning: I’ve arrived.
When to use: Say or text this when you reach the meeting place or your train/bus arrival point.
Tip: Beginners sometimes omit 了 (le) and say 我到, which sounds unnatural for 'I've arrived.'
我到了,站口旁边有一个红色雕塑。
Wǒ dào le, zhàn kǒu pángbiān yǒu yí gè hóngsè diāosù.
I'm here; there's a red sculpture by the station exit.
我到了,楼下等你。
Wǒ dào le, lóuxià děng nǐ.
I've arrived, I'll wait downstairs for you.
我在路上
Wǒ zài lùshang.
I’m on the way.
Meaning: I’m on the way.
When to use: Text this when you are en route but not yet there — for example on a train or in a taxi.
别着急,我在路上,半小时后到。
Bié zháojí, wǒ zài lùshang, bàn xiǎoshí hòu dào.
Don't worry, I'm on the way; I'll arrive in half an hour.
我在路上,遇到红灯慢了一点。
Wǒ zài lùshang, yùdào hóng dēng mànle yìdiǎn.
I'm on the way; I slowed down at a red light.
快到了
Kuài dào le.
Almost there.
Meaning: Almost there.
When to use: Use this text when you are very close and want the person waiting to know you’ll be there soon.
车快开到站了,快到了。
Chē kuài kāi dào zhàn le, kuài dào le.
The vehicle is almost at the stop — almost there.
我在小区门口,快到了,请稍等。
Wǒ zài xiǎoqū ménkǒu, kuài dào le, qǐng shāoděng.
I'm at the neighborhood entrance, almost there — please wait a moment.
路上有点堵
Lùshang yǒudiǎn dǔ.
Traffic is a bit bad.
Meaning: Traffic is a bit bad.
When to use: Send this when you are delayed because of congestion — a common and natural apology or explanation.
Tip: Some learners say 路上堵 instead of 路上有点堵; adding 有点 softens it and sounds more natural.
