Ready for a friendly boost? In Lesson 95 we'll practice short, natural ways to encourage someone in German. Keep it light — you can say these to friends, classmates, or coworkers.

Level A2: In this short lesson you’ll learn three everyday encouragement phrases: how to offer to do something together, how to reassure someone after a mistake, and how to praise effort. This CEFR-aligned set (Lesson 95) focuses on listening, repeating, and using the phrases in small conversations.

After this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Recognize and use three encouraging phrases at A2 level.
  • Practice saying these phrases out loud and in short dialogues.
  • Comfort a friend, offer shared effort, and acknowledge effort.

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

Lass uns zusammen ___.

Let's ___ together.

Meaning: Let's ___ together.

When to use: Use this to offer a shared activity or to suggest working on something as a team. The blank is usually an infinitive like „üben“, „lernen“, „machen“.

Tip: Beginner mistake: forgetting the infinitive after 'Lass uns zusammen' (e.g., saying 'Lass uns zusammen wir üben' is incorrect).

Lass uns zusammen üben.
Let's practice together.
Lass uns zusammen daran arbeiten.
Let's work on it together.

Alle machen mal Fehler.

Everyone makes mistakes.

Meaning: Everyone makes mistakes.

When to use: A calm, neutral reassurance after someone has made an error or is upset. Useful in many casual and formal situations.

Mach dir nichts draus — alle machen mal Fehler.
Don't worry — everyone makes mistakes.
Beim Lernen ist das normal: alle machen mal Fehler.
When learning that's normal: everyone makes mistakes.

Du hast dein Bestes gegeben.

You did your best.

Meaning: You did your best.

When to use: Use this to acknowledge someone's effort, especially if the result wasn't perfect. It's comforting and validates hard work.

Tip: Don't confuse formality: in formal situations use 'Sie haben Ihr Bestes gegeben.'

Du hast dein Bestes gegeben — das zählt.
You did your best — that counts.
Auch wenn es nicht geklappt hat: du hast dein Bestes gegeben.
Even if it didn't work out: you did your best.
