  • Use "Gute Idee." to approve a suggestion and "Auf jeden Fall." to show strong agreement.

1. Reading + Listening Practice

Hear core phrases, repeat aloud.

Gute Idee.

Good idea.

Meaning: Good idea.

When to use: Use "Gute Idee." to give friendly approval to a suggestion or plan. It's short and common in spoken German.

Tip: Beginners sometimes add articles like a direct translation; "Gute Idee." is fine alone. You can say "Das ist eine gute Idee." for a longer form.

Gute Idee. Lass uns morgen spazieren gehen.
Good idea. Let's go for a walk tomorrow.
Gute Idee, das Treffen früher zu planen.
Good idea to schedule the meeting earlier.

Auf jeden Fall.

Absolutely.

Meaning: Absolutely.

When to use: Use "Auf jeden Fall." to show strong agreement or to confirm something definitely should happen. It's a bit stronger than "Gute Idee."

Tip: Don't confuse it with a negative: if you add "nicht" you change the meaning ("auf jeden Fall nicht" = definitely not).

Auf jeden Fall, ich helfe dir beim Umzug.
Absolutely, I'll help you move.
Das sollten wir auf jeden Fall tun.
We should definitely do that.
